On Lake Victoria, flowering plants seem to grow magically from the lake surface onto a boat. That makes the lake a mysterious place that draws many visitors.
The boat named Floating Island was made by James Kateebain. The man found a special way to recycle plastic by building a large boat with plastic waste. He hoped it would encourage people to recycle things and stop littering. The boat is sitting on at least 10 tons of plastic bottles. It could hold up to about 100 to 120 people.
James used to be a tour guide. When he was working, he could always notice that tons of plastic waste ended up in Lake Victoria in the rainy seasons. To solve it, he started using plastic to build his boat in 2017.
Later James thought of developing the boat into a sustainable (可持續的) business on Lake Victoria- a boat restaurant opened for pleasure. So he asked fishermen nearby to collect more plastic bottles. Soon over 10 tons of bottles were brought to him. They were tied together and filled with soil(土壤), which could not only hold his boat, but also offer plants a place to grow.
James’ boat is adored by many people.
