How will you communicate with each other Possible answers: write letters, use gestures, send texts and emails. 問題驅動 Step 1. The teacher shows some pictures on the screen and asks the following questions: (1) What might the people be doing in the photos (2) What do you think they might be feeling (3) When and how do you use body language to convey meanings Then T asks Ss to partner up with deskmates and act out 3 sentences without speaking, then asks: How many types of body language do you find T summarizes the body language used in daily life: facial expressions, gestures, postures, eye contact, standing distance, etc. Then T asks Ss to look at page 38 and discuss the title of the article, which enables Ss to predict the contents of the upcoming article. Step 2. T shows the article on the screen and leads the Ss to find out the topic sentences in each paragraph. Then, T asks Ss to summarize where the key sentences are usually placed and shows answers on the screen. According to the key sentences given, T asks Ss to conclude the main ideas of each paragraph. Based on the main ideas, T asks Ss to guess the structure of the article by showing some tree graphs on the screen. By this step, Ss could be able to form a basic understanding from the structure of the article to each paragraph, which may lay a foundation for activity 3. Step 3. T asks Ss the meaning of the word “interaction” according to the context, after which presents the reading tip on the screen. Step2: Using the previous article structure, T leads Ss into the detailed comprehension of the whole article. In this section, T asks Ss to complete a table about body language. Then T asks Ss to further explore the following questions based on the table: (1) How is the body language mentioned in the text interpreted in China (2) Can you think of an example of body language that is appropriate in China but might be misunderstood in another culture Step 5. 1. T shows a video about the true smile and the fake smile. 2. T asks Ss to describe a situation in which they might use a fake smile. 3. T asks Ss to think about more body languages that could sometimes be fake. 4. T asks Ss to compare the reliability of understanding people’s feelings, people’s body languages or their conversations. 合作探究 T divides the students into groups of four. Ss are asked to discuss the question and one member of the group will act as a reporter and present ideas of his/ her group after discussion.
