Teaching Objectives and Requirements:

Teaching Procedures:
Step1:Lead-in
Introduce the French cuisine to students by using pictures and watching a video.
Ask a question about the big challenges in France to lead to the topic “ table manners”.
Watch a video about table manners.
(Stimulate their interest and present the topic.)
Step2: While reading
Prediction
Present the background information about the exchange student.
Let students predict what is the passage about by seeing the pictures and title of the passage.
Fast reading:
Give students 1 minute to read the whole passage to find the main idea.
Give students 3 minutes to read the whole passage to grasp the main idea of the passage and find the topic sentences.(Help them grasp the main idea.) and then give them 2minutes to find the key point of the passage by using the reading method(key words).
Scanning: (practice the skill of finding the details)
Read the para.1 and finish a question and fill a mind map
Read the para.2 to find the biggest challenge and fill in a chart about the dos and dons in the passage by using the method, circling the key words.
Show the pictures about the table manners to test and review the contents.
Step 3:Post reading
Review the passage and make notes about French customs in the chart.
(This activity provides writing practice using the target language.)
Compare the table manners in France and China in the group by using the providing expressions.( To practice students’ thinking and spoken English.)
Do a report to summary the similarity and differences between China and France.(To make a output)
Read the instructions and ask students to finish the exercise.
Get students to finish the activity on their own. As students work, move around the room offering help as needed. Ask a student to read his or her message to the class. Have other students add any information that is missing from the first student's report.
Step 4: Homework
Your pen pal is coming to China on an exchange program.He/She is asking you about Chinese customs and what he/she is supposed to do or not. Make notes in the chart.
