情態動詞
(一)概述
表示說話人對所說話語的觀點和態度,或表示主觀設想及其他情態意義,如需要、猜測、意愿或懷疑等。
(二)情態動詞的語法特征
1. 有實際意義,但在句中不能單獨充當謂語。
2. 后面跟動詞原形。表示否定時,在其后面加 not;表示疑問時,將它提到句首。
3. 無人稱和數的變化。
常見的情態動詞有:can、could、may、might、must、need、shal1、should、will、would等。
(三)情態動詞 can
情態動詞 can 沒有人稱和數的變化,可用來表示能力、許可和可能性。過去式是 could。can 常見的否定形式有 cannot 和 can't兩種。其具體用法如下:
1. 用法
(1)表示一個人現在所具備的能力,意為“能夠,會”。
He can speak a little English now.
他現在會說一點兒英語。
(2)用來表示請求或許可,一般常用于口語中,但它不如 may 正式,也不如could 語氣委婉,意為"可以,能”。
-Can I use your bike
我能用你的自行車嗎?
-Of course.
當然可以。
(3)表示可能性,常用于疑問句和否定句中,指“某事是否是事實"。
Can it be true
這可能是真的嗎?
He can't be there.
他不可能在那里。
2. 句式結構
(1)肯定句
主語+can+動詞原形+其他.
She can sing this English song.
她會唱這首英文歌曲。
(2)否定句
主語+can't+動詞原形+其他.
Sorry, I can't answer your question.
對不起,我不能回答你的問題。
(3)一般疑問句
Can+主語+動詞原形+其他
肯定回答:Yes,主語+can.
否定回答:No,主語+can't.

你會開車嗎?
-Yes, I can.
是的,我會。
-No, I can't.
不,我不會。
(4)特殊疑問句
What+can+主語+動詞原形(+其他)
-What can you do
你會做什么?
-I can swim.
我會游泳。
(四)情態動詞 may/might
1. may/might 主要表示說話人許可、請求對方許可;都可表示現在或將來的可能性。might 是 may 的過去式。might 比 may 語氣更委婉。一般用于疑問句或間接疑問句,不可用于肯定句或否定句??隙ɑ卮鸪S?Yes,of course/youcan.",否定回答常用"No,you can' t/You'd better not.”
-Might I come to the library with you
我能跟你去圖書館嗎?
-Yes,of course.
是的,當然可以。
2. 表示將要發生或正在發生的可能性。此時might 不是 may 的過去式,它所表示的可能性比 may 所表示的可能性(現在或將來的可能性)小一些。may 不用于表示是否可能的疑問句。
