Prediction - Have students look at the title and the pictures in the text and predict what the text might be about. Step 2: While-reading (10 minutes) 1. Skimming - Ask students to read the text quickly and answer the question: What is the main idea of the text 2. Scanning - Have students read the text again and complete the chart about the volunteers in Simon's neighbourhood. - Check the answers with the students. 3. Intensive reading - Ask students to read the text carefully paragraph by paragraph and answer the following questions: - What are Simon's neighbours like - When and where do the volunteers meet - What will the volunteers do this weekend - Have students discuss the answers in pairs and then share with the class. Step 3: Post-reading (15 minutes) 1. Language points - Explain the key vocabulary and sentence structures in the text. - Use examples and context to help students understand and remember. 2. Reading comprehension check - Have students read the conversation again and write T (true) or F (false) for the statements. Homework - Write a short passage about your ideal community and the volunteer work you think is necessary. - Review the vocabulary and language points learned in this lesson. Teaching Reflection In this lesson, students were actively involved in the reading and discussion activities. However, some students may still have difficulty understanding some complex sentences and vocabulary. In the future teaching, more examples and exercises should be provided to help them master the language points better.
