Step 1 Lead-in
(1)Ask the Ss to look at the picture on Page 51 and the questions:
What are the students in the photo doing
What club do you think they are in
Do you want to join this club
(2)Ask some Ss to share their answers.
(3)Ask the Ss to answer the question:What other clubs do you know
(4)Guide the Ss to learn about some other clubs,such as art club,science club,drama club,music club,chess club and ping pong club.
Step 2 Work on 1a
1a Match the pictures with the clubs.
(1)look at the six pictures carefully and talk about what are they doing.
(2)Learn the phrases below the pictures.
(3)Match the pictures with the clubs. Then check the answers with students.

Step 3 Listening
1b Listen to the conversations. Which club does each student want to join
(1)Ask students to listen to the conversations and find out the clubs they talked about in the tape.
(2)Check the answers in class.

1c Listen again and complete the sentences with can or can’t.

Step 2 Pronunciation

(2)Discuss what clubs the three students should join.
Step 3 Reading
1b Read the ads. Choose a suitable club for each student in 1a and tell your reasons.
