Playing the footage of The Gold Rush and asking the students some questions.
Scanning the text to get some information about Charlie Chaplin.
Careful reading to summarize the main ideas of each paragraph.
Individual, pair or group work to make every student work in class.

Pictures,a tape recorder, PowerPoint and multimedia classroom.
Teaching Procedures:
Step Ⅰ Lead-in
Greet the whole class as usual.
Show the family picture and review the words about family members.
Step Ⅱ Pre-Listening
1a Match the definitions with family members.
Watch the pictures in 1b and ask students to describe the people in the picture.
Help students predict what the conversation is about.
Suggested answers:
There are five people in the picture1, Emma wants to take a photo of Yaming’s family. And they are talking about their family members.
They are taking photos in the park.
Teng Fei and Peter are talking about the photo of Peter’s family.
There are ten people in the family photo. And Peter introduces his family members to Teng Fei.
If the students can not answer the questions perfectly, the teacher should consummate the answer.
Step Ⅲ While-listening
Listen and number the pictures.
Listen again and complete the sentences.
Analyze.
Listen and imitate.
Step Ⅳ Post-Listening

Pair work.
Choose one family photo from Chen Jie’s family, Peter’s family and Yaming’s family, and one student act as A, the other student act as B.
Watch a video and think about what the family mean.
Suggested answers:
His family is very warm/big/nice/.Because his family members are very kind and love him very much.
A place full of love support and understanding. Family means a home where have many members you loved.

Homework:
Listen to 1b again and read after the tape.
Visit your friend’s family and get to know them after school.
