Life lies in movement
It is universally acknowledged that life lies in movement. Taking exercise, which can not only enhance our immunity but also release us from the fast-paced life, plays an important role in our health.
When it comes to the sports which I am fond of, running must be mentioned. For one thing, it is easy to carry out. We can do running in our community or in the park, which saves us much time and money in finding a proper place. For another, we can do it as we like, by ourselves or in a group. At last, all things taken into consideration, running not only supplies us with good health, but also a positive mind.
So why not choose a sport and enjoy the benefit it brings you

【答案】17. A 18. C 19. B 20. A
【解析】
【原文】M: Good afternoon everyone. Before we start today’s lecture, I’d like to talk to you about your second paper because as you know if you’ve read the course outline, it’s worth 60% of your grade. Yes, 60%, so it’s obviously quite important and you should start thinking about it now. I know that on the course outline it says that both the first and second papers are 2.500 words long. That was true for the first paper but this one should be about 1,500 words longer. As far as the due date goes, the deadline is in six weeks, at the end of May. Throughout the term we’ve discussed several ancient civilizations but the theme of your second paper is women in ancient Rome. There are several areas you can focus on for your paper. Some of you have expressed an interest in writing about the status and role of these women but I want you to focus more. For example, you could look at their education and how this affected their role in society. Or you could consider their achievements in literature at that time. There are many possibilities, so I want you to start deciding on your topic and have it approved by either myself or one of the teachers by next Friday. If you have any questions, see me after class. Alright, let’s get back to our lesson.延邊第二中學2024—2025學年度第一學期

From the age of 6, Samirah Horton was bullied (欺凌) by her classmates for the things that made her different — her size and her sharp voice. Rather than giving up, Horton decided to pick up a microphone and make sure other children knew they weren’t alone. “I didn’t want other kids to go through that experience,” says Horton, “especially at a very young age.” Now, alongside attending eighth grade classes, she’s also building an anti-bullying platform to reach students across the country.
For as long as Horton remembers, she's felt a special connection to music. She remembers her mother always having the radio on, and her father teaching her how to deejay (主持) . Music gives her unlimited power to do the duty. “It’s music that fuels my mission, allowing me to spread this important message,”she says. Now as the Kid DJ for her hometown team, you can hear anything from the hip-hop classics to songs of her own, including the anti-bullying song “No You Won’t Bully Me”.
Her message has reached beyond the DJ set. At 8. Horton turned one of her songs into a 26-page picture book, which has reached thousands of people across America. In the book, she references the over 160,000 students who miss school daily for fear of being bullied.
Horton isn’t sure exactly what the future holds, but for now, she’s positive about leading her school’s student government. “I don’t know exactly what I’ll be doing, but I know I’ll be making a positive influence on the world,” she says. She’s already on her way, but her biggest achievement in her own eyes is persuading others not to doubt themselves along the way. “Don’t care what anybody tells you,” she says. “You are never too young to make a change.”
24.Why was Horton bullied
A.Because of her age. B.Because of her weight.
C.Because of her grades. D.Because of her hobby.
25.What does the underlined word “mission” in paragraph 2 mean
A.Task. B.Anger. C.Skill. D.Curiosity.

C.Success is peace of mind. D.Imperfections are beauty.
27.What might be the best title for the passage
A.A Picture-Book Writer
B.A Hip-Hop Music Lover
C.An Environmental Activist
D.An Anti-Bullying Advocate

As you craft your resolutions for 2025, consider adding one to experience more flow. Psychologist Mihály Csíkszentmihályi has called flow as “the secret to happiness.” Flow is a state of positive experience that each of us can incorporate into our everyday lives, one characterized by great joy that makes a life worth living.
When people feel flow, they are in a state of intense concentration. Their thoughts are focused on an experience rather than on themselves. They lose a sense of time and feel as if their actions and awareness become one. Flow occurs when both the task’s challenge and skill level are high. People will not feel flow when they are doing the dishes. Csíkszentmihályi’s research in the 1970s focused on people doing tasks they enjoyed. He studied swimmers, music composers, dancers, mountain climbers and other athletes. He found out that so long as that task’s challenge is high, and so are your skills, you should be able to achieve flow.
Why is flow “the secret to happiness” For one thing, the experience can help people pursue their long-term goals. Research shows that taking a break to feel flow can enhance one’s self-control, goal pursuit and well-being. A recent study also shows that flow helps people stay resilient (有適應力的) in the face of difficulty. Part of this is because flow can help refocus thoughts away from something stressful to something enjoyable. In fact, studies have shown that experiencing flow can help guard against depression and burnout.
What is going on in the brain during flow Studies show that the experience is associated with increasing activation in brain structures related to feeling reward. This may be one reason why flow feels so enjoyable and why people are so focused on tasks that make them feel flow. Research also shows that flow is associated with dampened activity in brain structures related to self-focus and negative thoughts. This may help explain why feeling flow can help distract (轉移) people from worry. However, the above-mentioned studies were correlational, not causal. Further study of this connection is vital.
28.According to the passage, flow is most likely to occur when someone is ______.
A.playing chess against a tough opponent
B.attending a concert of his favorite singer
C.doing daily chores for his family members
D.sharing his traveling experience with friends
29.Flow is called “the secret to happiness” partly because it can help ______.
A.turn demanding tasks into easier ones
B.distract people from negative thoughts
C.remind people to take necessary breaks
D.break long-term goals into shorter ones
30.What does the underlined word “dampened” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean
A.Planned. B.Imbalanced. C.Reduced. D.Activated.
31.Which would be the best title for the passage
A.When does the state of “flow” occur
B.What happens in our brain during “flow”
C.Why does experiencing “flow” feel so good
D.How can “flow” be achieved in everyday life
D
The number of states requiring high schoolers to learn about personal money matters continued to increase in 2021, and another —Florida—is ready to join the group shortly. In Florida, the Legislature has passed a law requiring students to take a full term course in personal finance (金融) before graduating.
Financial concerns grew during the pandemic, and rising inflation (通貨膨脹) is tightening household budgets. Those factors, combined with worries about burdensome student debt levels, have created a stronger reason for making personal money skills a must for high schoolers.
“The need has never been greater,” said Annamaria Lusardi, the founder and academic director of the Global Financial Literacy Excellence Center at George Washington University. “We owe it to this young generation to be well prepared for the future.”
Financial literacy (金融素養) — a working grasp of concepts like saving, credit, interest rates, investing and risk assessment — is generally low among American adults, especially younger adults. Two-thirds of Generation Z adults, for example, couldn’t correctly answer more than half the financial questions in the center’s survey, which compared financial literacy across five generations.
“The pandemic has shown a great need for the average Americans to have these skills,” said Tim Ranzetta, co-founder of Next Gen Personal Finance.
State-level surveys conducted for Next Gen have found strong support for high school personal finance requirements, Mr. Ranzetta said, and dozens of proposals are awaiting action in state legislatures. It’s uncertain how many will become laws, but a requirement in a large state like Florida, he said, may help promote other states’ efforts.
While the progress among states is encouraging, there is more to do. Currently, just nine of the 23 states require personal finance to be taken as a stand-alone course. Others permit the subject to be combined with other classes, like math or social studies, or provide other ways for students to quit the course.
32. Which is NOT the reason for requiring students to take a course in personal finance
A. The impact of the pandemic. B. The tight household budgets.
C. An increase in financial cases. D. Concerns about student debt levels.
33. Which statement would Mr. Ranzetta probably agree with
A. Dozens of proposals are sure to become laws.
B. Florida’s new law may encourage other states’ efforts.
C. Personal finance is not necessary for the average Americans.
D. The young generation have been well prepared in personal finance.
34. What’s the author’s attitude to states’ efforts in meeting personal finance requirements
A. Positive. B. Objective. C. Indifferent. D. Doubtful.
35. What can be a suitable title for the text
A. A New Course in Personal Finance
B. A Great Need for Financial Literacy
C. High Schoolers’ Growing Financial Concerns
D. High Schools’ Requirements for Personal Finance

Superfoods are things you eat that do more than satisfy your hunger because they help your body work better and be better. Think of your body as a car. 36 Our bodies are just the same.
Eating superfoods can change your life in many ways. 37 One reason for this is that many superfoods are naturally low in calories. Another reason is that sticking to eating them is very easy.
With most diets, people concentrate on what shouldn’t be eaten. With superfoods, they focus on all the great things they can eat. 38 Eating superfoods over time helps keep you looking young, fights heart disease and cures Type II diabetes and some cancers.
39 While many are low in calories, some, such as whole grains, are still high in them. Eating just superfoods won’t make you instantly healthier.
Instead, getting a wide variety of foods, superfoods included, and doing your best to make healthy choices is the better solution.
Besides, with all the energy that is packed in superfoods, you will be ready for any challenge that awaits you. If you want to start adding superfoods to your diet, do it at your own pace. 40
A.However, you should not eat just superfoods.
B.Taking one small step makes it easier to take the next.
C.That is very true because you are eating energy-filled food.
D.The better the gas you put in your car, the better it will run.
E.There are other benefits to adding them to your diet as well.
F.Lastly, whether superfoods benefit your health remains to be seen.
G.Not surprisingly, people who start eating them lose weight quickly.
