“A friend in need is a friend indeed. ” Friends are important to us. Friends help us get through hard times. Friends also influence us a lot. Let’s enjoy two poems about friendship.
To Wang Lun I, Li Bai, sit aboard a ship about to go, When suddenly on shore your farewell songs overflow. However deep the Lake of Peach Blossoms may be, It is not so deep, O Wang Lun, as your love for me.
A Time to Talk By Robert Frost When a friend calls to me from the road And slows his horse to a meaning walk, I don’t stand still and look around On all the hills I haven’t hoed, And shout from where I am, “What is it ” No, not as there is a time to talk. I thrust my hoe in the mellow ground (把鋤頭插入松土) , Blade (刀片)-end up and five feet tall, And plod (吃力行進):I go up to the stone wall For a friendly visit.
Both poems are famous in their cultures, but they tell different stories. Li Bai described the scene (場景) of his friend seeing him off. The US poet Robert Frost wrote about a friend’s visit when he was working. Li made a comparison. His poem shows the friendship between him and his friend is deeper than the deep water. Frost’s poem, on the other hand, tells the readers that we should stop what we are doing to talk with our friends. It tells us that nothing should get in the way of spending time with friends.

One day, a little boy and a little girl were playing together in their neighborhood. The boy showed the girl his beautiful marbles (彈珠). The boy said that they could exchange (交換) their things—he would give her all of his marbles if she handed over all of her candy. The girl agreed.
The boy gave the girl his marbles but secretly kept the most beautiful one in his pocket (口袋). The girl kept her promise and gave all her candy to the boy.
That night, the girl felt really happy about the exchange. She went to bed with a big smile and had sweet dreams. However, the boy couldn’t sleep. He kept worrying about whether the girl would find his secret marble.
The next morning, the boy got up early. He went to visit the girl and told her honestly (誠實地) that he still kept the most beautiful marble. The girl smiled and showed her understanding. The boy felt a sense of relief (解脫感). They spent the rest of the day playing marbles and eating the candy together. Their friendship grew stronger than ever.

Friendship is very important. However, it is not easy to build a lasting friendship. In order to do so, you need to make the person with whom you want to build a friendship trust you. Of course, it is easier said than done. Here are some of my suggestions about making friends.
Firstly, be careful when you want to make friends with someone. He or she may not be as kind as you think. He or she may lie and may cause trouble. Once I told a secret of mine to one of my friends. I told him not to tell the secret to anybody else. He agreed. But that was a lie! I was shocked when I found out that he had told the secret to many people. It was so terrible!
Secondly, it is not easy to maintain friendships. You should avoid being selfish (自私的) and think about problems from the side of your friends. It is also important to keep calm. A friendship won’t last long if you don’t care about your friend or blame(責備) him or her whenever there is a conflict (沖突).
My last suggestion is: You don’t have to use presents to show that you care about your friends. Friendships do not build on gifts. Instead, they are made up of kindness and true love.
Cherish (珍惜) your friends! They are a treasure (財富) in our life!
( ) 63. Which of the following is NOT true
A. You should be careful when you want to make friends with someone.
B. It is very important for a person to keep the secret for his or her friends.
C. You should try to stand by the side of your friends when there is a
conflict.
D. You should give presents, kindness and true love to show you care about
your friends.
( ) 64. What’s the meaning of the underlined word “maintain”
A. Keep. B. Respect.
C. Protect. D. Stick.
( ) 65. What’s the best title of the passage
A. We should learn to share
B. How to make more friends
C. How to build a lasting friendship
D. What is a friendship
D
“What! You, too I thought I was the only one. ” Have you ever said this to someone If so, you may have ended up becoming friends with this person.
It seems that similarity (相似性) often helps form friendships. The Greek philosopher (哲學家) Aristotle once said, “Some define (下定義) ‘friendship’ as a matter of similarity; they say that we love those who are like ourselves. ”
Now, there is some science behind this idea. Scientists from the University of California said friends have similar brains, Scientific American reported.
The scientists invited 42 university students to take part in an experiment. Each student watched the same set of videos, which included a comedy, a debate (討論) and a soccer match. Meanwhile, scientists scanned (掃描) their brains and recorded their brain activities. According to their scans, friends who watched the same video clips reacted in similar ways. Similar parts of their brains lit up while watching the videos. However, people who weren’t friends had different reactions to the same video.
But brain similarity is not the only thing that can result in friendship. Scientists also found that friendship is also based on how close you are to someone. They did an experiment with students who met in class for the first time. In this experiment, students who sat in neighboring seats were more likely to become friends.
( ) 66. What does “this idea” in Paragraph 3 refer to

A life without a friend is a life without the sun. My best friend is Tom. He is tall and outgoing. He has black eyes and black hair. He is very thin. He is really more hard-working than me. I am good at English, but he does well in math. We like playing basketball. Both he and I like sports shows. Differences are not important in a friendship. We can learn from each other. Although we have some differences, we are good friends.
When we are in trouble, we care about each other. One day, I felt down because of my poor math. He took me to walk around the playground. He told me not to worry about it. He could help me as much as he could. We encourage each other at any time, so I cherish this friendship very much. I think that is a true friendship.
