Dear Clara,
I’m very glad to hear that you will come to China before the Mid-Autumn Festival. I know you are not at speaking Chinese. Now I give you some advice on how to learn Chinese.
You can make word cards to learn Chinese. Watching Chinese movies is also a good way. What’s more, use Chinese whenever you can. The more you use Chinese, the better you will learn it.
As for the Mid-Autumn Festival,it falls on the 15th of the eighth month of our Chinese lunar calendar and is one of the traditional Chinese festivals. No matter how far away we are, we will try to go home for the celebration. What we love most is to sit together, admire the moon, eat mooncakes and share our stories.
Yours

Hello, I am Helen. I’d like to share with you one of my experiences in China.
Last summer, I went to China to do my business. I stayed there for two months and experienced an interesting festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival.
Chinese people call the Mid-Autumn Festival “the moon festival”. They think it is an important chance for the family to get together. So, on that day, they try their best to go back home and have a big dinner with their family. Luckily, my Chinese friend Li Ming invited me to join his family.
After dinner, we enjoyed mooncakes together, as well as the beautiful moon. They told me that the round mooncakes and a full moon mean being together. Surprisingly, that night, I found the moon was especially round and bright. That made me miss my family, too. Amazing, isn’t it 2024學(xué)年第一學(xué)期期中考試 九 年級(jí) 英語 答題卷

Five years ago, my mother, gave birth to a brother for me when I was 8. I have learned a lot from getting along with him.
After he was born, I almost became a babysitter. I had to amuse him after school. I would make faces and sing to him when he was crying. Sometimes I even carried him everywhere in our yard to refresh him while my parents were busy. What I liked to do best was to feed him when looking after him. How cute he was as he tasted his favorite food! My parents often praised me happily," As an elder brother, you've made contributions to looking after your younger brother. "
I have got happiness from sharing. When I was young, I was the only child in my family. I could get what I wanted from my parents and get my parents' whole love. I was a "Little Emperor".
But now, as long as I get something good, I will share it with him. I remembered the year when he was three, he was fond of Rubik's cubes(魔方). I bought one for him with my lucky money as a birthday present When he got the toy, he was so happy that he laughed, hugged me and said, "Brother, I love you!
Thanks for spending these years together, with my family. It has taught me what responsibility means, what unselfishness means and what friendship means.
Not only should I look after myself, but also I should pay attention to my family and my friends.

How do blind people get around safely Some people use special guide dogs. A well-trained dog knows how to help its owner cross busy streets and get from place to place. Some people use long white canes(手杖)to help them get around.
Guide dogs and canes are helpful, but there must be a better way for blind people to get around. A scientist in England thought so. His name is Waters and he studies bats(蝙蝠). He knows that bats are able to fly in the dark. Besides, he knows that bats go by using sound to "see". Dr. Waters wondered if people could do something similar.
Bats make sounds as they fly. These sounds travel in waves(波)in the air. When the waves hit an object such as a tree or house, they bounce back(反射回來). The waves travel back to the bat's ears. A bat learns the location and shape of objects around it.
Dr. Waters talked to other scientists, including Withington from America and Hoyle from Germany. They worked together and invented a new kind of cane. They called it a "bat cane" because their idea started with bats. The new cane has a computer in the handle(手柄). ▲ The sound waves hit objects and echoes(回聲)back. This causes the handle to make sounds, which humans can hear.
With a little training, a person using the cane can easily tell where objects are and can "see" with sound!
23.A _____ helps the blind go across busy streets.
A.bat B.black cane C.Computer D.well-trained dog
24.Scientists called this new kind cane a "bat cane"because_____.
A.it looked like a bat
B.a(chǎn) bat had been trained
C.their idea began with bats
D.they thought bats may bring good luck to the blind
25.Which of the following can be put in " ▲ " in the fourth paragraph
A.It makes noise that helps humans
B.It produces some songs that humans can hear
C.It sends out high sounds that humans cannot hear
D.It tells the blind that there isn't anything around them
26.The bat cane may make the blind's life_____.
A.Funnier B.more exciting C.more difficult D.more convenient
D
①Are you tired of people asking the questions, “What’s your hobby ” Well, you always hear the same old answers: reading, listening to music, painting and so on. There’s nothing wrong with these activities, but maybe it’s time for some new ideas.
②For example, how about “yarn bombing” What’s that Maybe you have heard of knitting(編織) to make sweaters, scarves, gloves and other things. With yarn bombing, people knit different kinds of things, like sweaters for trees or hats for the stones in the park. It’s the latest form of artwork. In some cities, people are even paying knitters to decorate public places with their art. Some call it “Knitting Graffiti(涂鴉),” but unlike other forms of graffiti, it is easy to take away, and it doesn’t destroy anything.
③Do you like those TV shows in which the police use science to solve crimes If you do, you can take up “forensic science” as a hobby. That’s the science used to find crimes. You can get a set of at-home fingerprint tools and find out who is taking cookies from the cookie box or perhaps who is reading your secret diary.
④Finally, here’s a hobby for those who want to have fun and make a little money. It’s called “upcycling”. You’ve heard of recycling —you put things like glass, paper and plastic in special boxes so the materials can be used again. Upcyclers take old things and make them into new things. Sometimes they can even sell the things they make. For example, you can take an old book bag, clean it up and decorate it. It will look like a cool new bag. There’s even a magazine called Upcycle that is full of ideas. All you need for this is an old thing and a good imagination.
⑤So look around for a new and interesting hobby. Then when someone asks you the question “What’s your hobby ” you can give them an answer that they’ve never heard before.
27. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. Yarn bombing. B. Graffiti. C. The park. D. Knitting.
28. What do you need if you take up “forensic science” as a hobby
A. Rich imagination. B. Science magazines.
C. Knitting tools. D. Fingerprint tools.
29. Which of the following is TRUE
A. Knitting Graffiti is difficult to take away.
B. A lot of people make a living by upcycling.
C. It’s a good idea to have a new and interesting hobby.
D. The police usually take up forensic science as a hobby.
30. How is the passage organized
A. B. C. D.

Street stalls (攤位) are making a comeback in China after the government announced (宣布) its support in street stalls to the public.
31 Chengdu has set up at least 36,000 street stalls since the end of May. Changchun reported that it would encourage and support the opening of night markets. Yichang in Hubei Province has allowed stores to set up roadside stalls.
In fact, street stalls are not new in China. 32 Later, to have a more beautiful environment, many cities made strict rules over street stalls. So there were fewer and fewer street stalls.
Now, thanks to the government's support, street stalls have returned. 33
There are new rules for the return of street stalls. For example, people in Chengdu can only set up street stalls in special areas so that they would not affect traffic. 34 There are also new types of street stalls. In a night market called “Anyi Night Market” in Shanghai, there are not only food sellers, but also designers and artists selling their own works. Street stalls are welcomed by the public.
A. Many cities have set an example. B.Setting up street stalls is a good chance to make money. C. What's more, sellers can't leave rubbish on the ground. D. But they are not the same as they were many years ago. E. Years ago, they were everywhere from towns to cities across the country.

Five years ago, my mother, gave birth to a brother for me when I was 8. I have
learned a lot from getting along with him.
After he was born, I almost became a babysitter. I had to amuse him after school.
2
I would make faces and sing to him when he was crying. Sometimes I even carried
him everywhere in our yard to refresh him while my parents were busy. What I liked
to do best was to feed him when looking after him. How cute he was as he tasted his
favorite food! My parents often praised me happily," As an elder brother, you've made
contributions to looking after your younger brother. "
I have got happiness from sharing. When I was young, I was the only child in my
family. I could get what I wanted from my parents and get my parents' whole love. I
was a "Little Emperor".
But now, as long as I get something good, I will share it with him. I remembered
the year when he was three, he was fond of Rubik's cubes(魔方). I bought one for him
with my lucky money as a birthday present When he got the toy, he was so happy that
he laughed, hugged me and said, "Brother, I love you!
Thanks for spending these years together, with my family. It has taught me what
responsibility means, what unselfishness means and what friendship means.
Not only should I look after myself, but also I should pay attention to my family
and my friends.
19.The underlined word "amuse him" in the second paragraph means "____".

C.cooked for his family D.bought a Rubik's cube for himself
22.How old was the writer when he bought the birthday present for his younger
brother

How do blind people get around safely Some people use special guide dogs. A
well-trained dog knows how to help its owner cross busy streets and get from place to
place. Some people use long white canes(手杖)to help them get around.
Guide dogs and canes are helpful, but there must be a better way for blind people
to get around. A scientist in England thought so. His name is Waters and he studies
bat(s 蝙蝠). He knows that bats are able to fly in the dark. Besides, he knows that bats
go by using sound to "see". Dr. Waters wondered if people could do something
similar.
Bats make sounds as they fly. These sounds travel in waves(波)in the air. When
the waves hit an object such as a tree or house, they bounce back(反射回來). The
3
waves travel back to the bat's ears. A bat learns the location and shape of objects
around it.
Dr. Waters talked to other scientists, including Withington from America and
Hoyle from Germany. They worked together and invented a new kind of cane. They
called it a "bat cane" because their idea started with bats. The new cane has a
computer in the handle(手柄). ▲ The sound waves hit objects and echoes(回
聲)back. This causes the handle to make sounds, which humans can hear.
With a little training, a person using the cane can easily tell where objects are and
can "see" with sound!
23.A _____ helps the blind go across busy streets.
A.bat B.black cane C.Computer D.well-trained dog
24.Scientists called this new kind cane a "bat cane"because_____.
A.it looked like a bat
B.a(chǎn) bat had been trained
C.their idea began with bats
D.they thought bats may bring good luck to the blind
25.Which of the following can be put in " ▲ " in the fourth paragraph
A.It makes noise that helps humans
B.It produces some songs that humans can hear
C.It sends out high sounds that humans cannot hear
D.It tells the blind that there isn't anything around them
26.The bat cane may make the blind's life_____.
A.Funnier B.more exciting C.more difficult D.more convenient
D
①Are you tired of people asking the questions, “What’s your hobby ” Well, you
always hear the same old answers: reading, listening to music, painting and so on.
There’s nothing wrong with these activities, but maybe it’s time for some new ideas.
②For example, how about “yarn bombing” What’s that Maybe you have heard
of knitting(編織) to make sweaters, scarves, gloves and other things. With yarn
bombing, people knit different kinds of things, like sweaters for trees or hats for the
stones in the park. It’s the latest form of artwork. In some cities, people are even
paying knitters to decorate public places with their art. Some call it “Knitting
Graffiti(涂鴉),” but unlike other forms of graffiti, it is easy to take away, and it
doesn’t destroy anything.
③Do you like those TV shows in which the police use science to solve crimes
If you do, you can take up “forensic science” as a hobby. That’s the science used to
find crimes. You can get a set of at-home fingerprint tools and find out who is taking
cookies from the cookie box or perhaps who is reading your secret diary.
④Finally, here’s a hobby for those who want to have fun and make a little money.
It’s called “upcycling”. You’ve heard of recycling —you put things like glass, paper
and plastic in special boxes so the materials can be used again. Upcyclers take old
4
things and make them into new things. Sometimes they can even sell the things they
make. For example, you can take an old book bag, clean it up and decorate it. It will
look like a cool new bag. There’s even a magazine called Upcycle that is full of ideas.
All you need for this is an old thing and a good imagination.
⑤So look around for a new and interesting hobby. Then when someone asks you
the question “What’s your hobby ” you can give them an answer that they’ve never
heard before.
27. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 2 refer to
A. Yarn bombing. B. Graffiti. C. The park. D. Knitting.
28. What do you need if you take up “forensic science” as a hobby
A. Rich imagination. B. Science magazines.
C. Knitting tools. D. Fingerprint tools.
29. Which of the following is TRUE
A. Knitting Graffiti is difficult to take away.
B. A lot of people make a living by upcycling.
C. It’s a good idea to have a new and interesting hobby.
D. The police usually take up forensic science as a hobby.

Street stalls (攤位 ) are making a comeback in China after the government
announced (宣布) its support in street stalls to the public.
31 Chengdu has set up at least 36,000 street stalls since the end of
May. Changchun reported that it would encourage and support the opening of night
markets. Yichang in Hubei Province has allowed stores to set up roadside stalls.
In fact, street stalls are not new in China. 32 Later, to have a more
beautiful environment, many cities made strict rules over street stalls. So there were
fewer and fewer street stalls.
Now, thanks to the government's support, street stalls have returned. 33
There are new rules for the return of street stalls. For example, people in Chengdu can
only set up street stalls in special areas so that they would not affect traffic. 34
There are also new types of street stalls. In a night market called “Anyi Night Market”
in Shanghai, there are not only food sellers, but also designers and artists selling their
own works. Street stalls are welcomed by the public.
5
A. Many cities have set an example.
B.Setting up street stalls is a good chance to make money.
C. What's more, sellers can't leave rubbish on the ground.
D. But they are not the same as they were many years ago.
E. Years ago, they were everywhere from towns to cities across the country.
