Many teenagers feel that the most important people in their lives are their friends. They believe that their family members don’t know as well as their friends do. In large families, it is quite often for brothers and sisters to fight with each other and then they can only go to their friends for some ideas.
It’s very important for teenagers to have one good friend or a group of good friends. Even they are not with their friends, they usually spend a lot of time talking among themselves on the phone. This communication is very important in children’s growing up, because friends can discuss something. These things are difficult to say to their family members.
However, parents often try to choose their children’s friends for them. Some parents may even stop their children from meeting their good friends. Have you ever thought of the following questions

So how can you make things easier on yourself? It's easier than you think.Just make sure your parents know what you're doing.Get them to know your friends.Phone them if you stay somewhere else late so that your parents don't call every hospital in the phone book looking for you.Say sorry to them when you make mistakes.Take responsibility(責(zé)任)for what you have done.Talk about your ideas with them. They may talk about theirs with you.
Most of all,try to think about why your parents do this or do that. They are still practicing being parents and need help you can give them. Some day, when you become a parent, they may be able to help you know how to get on with your children.

Joey Alexander was born in Bali, Indonesia on June 25, 2003.He is so talented in jazz that he is considered a jazz prodigy. However, he says he doesn’t like being called a prodigy. He just prefers to be thought of as himself or as a jazz musician.
Joey is from Indonesia but lives in New York now. He started playing the piano when he was 6 years old. He says his success isn’t from tons of lessons; it’s from feeling the music in his heart.
When Joey was 6 years old, his parents brought home a mini keyboard(鍵盤式電子樂器). And to their surprise, Joey could play the melody(樂曲) of Well, You Needn’t (a jazz classic written by Thelonious Monk). His parents directly gave him piano lessons. In just a year or so, he could already play difficult jazz pieces. For him, jazz is really great. It gives him freedom at playing. That’s why he prefers jazz to modern or classical music.
In December, 2011, Joey was invited to play in front of the well-known jazz musician Herbie Hancock during his visit to Indonesia. At the age of 15, Joey performed and collaborated(合作) with many top jazz musicians in Indonesia and also with some visiting jazz musicians from Europe in the year 2018.So far, he has also performed in many jazz festivals like Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival.

“Without music, life would be a mistake,” famous German philosopher(哲學(xué)家) Friedrich Nietzsche said over a century ago. Music is a big part of our lives. But in recent years, some US schools have cut music classes to control budgets(預(yù)算).
For example, Chicago public schools hurt art education when they fired(解雇) over 1,000 teachers. Among them, 10 percent of the teachers taught art or music, according to The Washington Times. In fact, this is not just a problem in the US. In other countries, such as China and the UK, music classes are not thought to be as important as ones like science, math and history. That’s partly because music is not seen as a very important life skill, and it isn’t tested. Many students are busy with schoolwork, so parents and students choose to focus on subjects that are tested more often.
However, learning music is beneficial(有益的) in many ways.
When playing music, you need different abilities to work together. It is not as simple as it looks, according to Kenneth Guilmartin of Music Together, an early childhood music development program. For example, when playing the piano, people see music notes and decode(解碼) them in their brains. They also use their fingers to make sounds. You need to deal with all these things at the same time.
Music has a special connection with science as well. You can see that many scientists are good at playing music: Einstein played the violin, and German physicist Max Planck was talented in playing the piano.
( )6.Some schools in the US cut music classes, because .

As some videos are about the latest news, a group of users depend on them to get information. To some other users, they have a different purpose. “Because I can't spend many hours watching a whole video and I'm not a very patient person,
3A I prefer to watch short videos of wonderful parts in programs,” said Wang Zhihao.
4F “Killing time is the main reason for me to watch the short videos, but many are almost the same, so I think it is a waste of time. What's more, I really don't like the videos which show strange even dangerous things,” said Wen Nan, another college student.
Recently, something else has happened. Some videos are telling people what products are worth buying. 5C So they should think twice. Some short videos even sell bad products, but these sellers won't let you get your money back.
A.I don't like waiting for a program to end. B.“Short videos” are certainly the most popular. C.But after they buy the products, they may regret soon. D.One of the videos won her about one million fans. E.I can make money with short videos. F.However, some young Chinese feel bored with some short videos.

If you put your history notes under your pillow and sleep on them the night before an exam, will you do any better in the exam Most of us have hoped this might help. However, knowledge can't go through the pillow into your brain. But that doesn't mean you can't learn while you are asleep.
Scientists aren't exactly sure how it works, but they have discovered that the brain can learn things during sleeping hours.
In one experiment, researchers gave German speakers some Dutch words to learn. Then, they divided them into three groups. The researchers played the Dutch words for people in Group 1 while they were asleep, without telling these German speakers what they were doing. The sound was low so it didn't wake them up, and only the newly introduced words were used.
Another group listened to the same words while they were awake. The researchers found the people in Group 1 were better able to identify and translate the words later. This was true only for the words that were played while they slept. The third group listened to words when they walked. The walkers didn't have the same success in remembering the words as the sleeping group.
The researchers later found that people had more slow-wave brain activity all over the night. They said that more slow waves made people have a better memory for the new words.

Spain is famous for its tomato festival called La Tomatina.
It happens in a small town Bunol on the last Wednesday of August every year. During the festival there are all kinds of activities, but the most exciting part is the tomato fight. It takes place at the end of the long celebration(慶祝). You are encouraged to throw tomatoes in the fight. There're many stories about how the festival began. Before the tomato fight, there are parades(游行),musical bands, street parties and so on. On the day of the fight, shopkeepers cover their windows and doors in order to keep away from the tomato fight. At the same time, thousands of tourists and local people come to the town square together. Then large trucks(卡車)full of tomatoes arrive. From the back of the large trucks, a great town band start to throw tomatoes at others. Then the crowds fight back, throwing the tomatoes at anything and anyone. Soon the streets are in the sea of red tomato juice.
Everyone is supposed to obey a small number of rules:You must squash(壓爛)the tomato before throwing it and you are allowed to throw nothing but tomatoes.

Days ago, I made a skirt for a friend’s daughter. Today, when I walked in the door, I noticed the light shining on my answering machine. It was my friend saying, “I know you worked hard on the skirt and it looks very nice, but Janet doesn’t like all those flowers. Could you change them ”
I was angry and wanted to call her back. Then I suddenly thought of Grandma and what she had once done for me long ago.
It was a summer when I was eight. One day, Grandma decided to curl (使卷曲) my hair. She spent a long time on each curl, and I could tell she enjoyed doing that. When she was finished she was so proud. She made me stand on a chair to look in the mirror. My heart went cold. “You can go out and play now,” Grandma said, smiling. I nodded and slowly walked toward the door. I looked out of the small window in the door and could see some kids playing outside. My best friend, Ducky, saw me and waved for me to come outside, but I couldn’t move. I knew everyone would laugh at the curls. At the same time I couldn’t go back and tell Grandma how I felt.
Finally I went into Grandma’s room and said in a scared voice, “Grandma, my hair’s too curly.”
She didn’t say a word. She placed a comb (梳子) in water, combed out all my curls, and then stood me back on the chair so I could see in the mirror. Then I went off to play.
It was when Grandma took out my curls that I knew she loved me. She had put my feelings before hers. And that is the kind of love I try to pass on today.
I called my friend back. “I’d be glad to change the _______,” I said.

It might be fun to use your smartphone, but be careful. Too much screen time may be harmful to your health.
First, it is bad for your eyes. A researcher called Sarah Hinkley says the problem comes from the blue light that the screen gives out. Looking at a smartphone for a long time can cause eye strain(勞損), headaches and dry eyes. So it is a good idea to take a break every 15 minutes when you are working at a computer or using a smartphone.
Second, screen use can do harm to children’s brains. A new study shows that using screens too much can affect(影響) how children’s brains grow. If children use screens for more than one hour a day, they might have lower levels of white matter in their brains. White matter is a key to the development of language and reading skills. So it is wise to cut down the time of children using all kinds of screens.
Third, using screens too much will affect your sleep. According to a study, about 95% of the people between the ages of 13 and 64 use electronics before bed, especially the young people under 20. Doctors say that the light from those electronics at night may make you excited before you go to bed. Then it’s hard for you to get enough sleep.
