I’m sorry to hear that you argued with your parents over the use of the cellphone. I completely understand how you feel as it is actually quite normal among us teenagers. Here I’d like to offer some advice to help you figure it out.
To begin with, keep calm and try to understand their concerns. Then you can have a face-to-face communication with them, sharing what you think patiently. Secondly, as a double-edged sword, a smartphone works in your favor, but sometimes it works against you. Therefore, it’s suggested that you should control your time spent on it. M: I remember very well the night I went to a party in town but had to spend six hours getting the five kilometers back home. It was my friend’s dance party. The weather was fine when I left for the party and it only took me twenty minutes to get to the party by car. We had a great time at the party. Every now and then someone would arrive and tell us the weather was getting worse. We just kept on partying. We weren’t interested in what was happening outside. Then, around 2:30a.m., it was time to go home. I couldn’t believe it when I got outside. Everything was covered with snow. There were no buses or taxis on the road. Where was my car I remembered I had parked near the disco, so I followed the walls around to the back and went from car to car, looking for mine. Finally, we found it. When I got inside, I found it couldn’t start. So I had to walk on the snow covered streets all the way home. It was a good thing that I knew the way very well.

When her mother died two years ago, Celia Bashaw began dreaming about an artwork her uncle Perkins had made. Her mother and grandmother had loved it. But Bashaw couldn’t find it. She knew it had been picked up after her grandmother’s death when the family was going through her belongings, 15 years ago. And she knew her uncle, who lived in Vermont, had given it away there, hoping the new owners would hold on to it. As it turned out, they sold it.
So she decided to make a post online in a group for Vermonters, hoping she could track down the buyers and get the piece back. Bashaw attached three photos of the artwork and the post was shared about 600 times.
Then, in Vermont, Alvin and his wife Nora, saw the post and realized they had bought the artwork. They arranged a meeting. Despite being nervous about meeting strangers from the internet, Bashaw found them “so nice and such great people.”
“With all the bad news and everything going around, it’s good to see something really nice,” Nora said, who offered to give it back to Bashaw.
In an updated post, Bashaw shared her excitement at being reunited(團聚) with her uncle’s artwork, thanking the community for sharing and helping her find the piece.
Now, Bashaw feels like a piece of her mother and grandmother has come back home.
“It’s really nice because I don’t have very many things of my mother or my grandmother and actually, it’s been extremely hard for me to even find a picture of me and my grandmother together. We were so close, and it just makes me so sad. … I hope she can see it now that I have it back because she was looking for it too.” she said.

According to a recent international study, children who feel more connected to their families are more likely to flourish(茁壯成長).
Robert Whitaker and colleagues at Columbia University in New York surveyed(調查) over 37,000 children aged 11 to 13 in 26 countries about family connections and flourishing. The children were asked to rate their family connections on a five-point scale（等級） with statements like “My family cares about me” and “I feel safe at home.” They were also asked to rate their growth on a 0-10 scale with statements like “I like myself” and “I’m positive about my future.” Based on their answers, the researchers got “family connection” and “flourishing” scores for each child.
They found a connection between the two scores. Children with the strongest family bonds were 49% more likely to flourish than those with the weakest.
“I think it’s an important finding because it shows that providing a caring family environment isn’t just about avoiding the negative things, it’s also about building kids’ abilities,” says Sanders at the University of Queensland in Australia.
Children with good family relationships are probably more likely to flourish because they have “an internal sense of safety”, says the researchers. This sense of safety allows children to understand who they are and accept who they are, and to grow and learn, have positive relationships and develop a sense of mastery and purpose.
Not having to worry about home life also means children can devote more mental energy to learning, socializing and “spreading their wings”, says Sanders.
To develop healthy family relationships, Whitaker says the best thing that parents and other caregivers can do is to spend quality time with children. This can involve simple activities like eating meals, going for walks or doing chores together, he says. “Being present, open, interested and attentive at these times is the foundation of family connection,” he says.
