People all know dogs can smell very well, so people usually use dogs to look for missing people, and to find out drugs(毒品) and even disease(疾病). But scientists weren’t sure if stressed(有壓力的) people had a special smell. And if they did, they weren’t sure whether dogs could find out that smell. It shows that the answer to both questions is “yes”.
Wilson is a scientist who worked with four dogs. He taught the dogs to use a special smell-testing thing with three open boxes. Then he used meat to train(訓練) the dogs to find the right box. Over time, he gave the dogs harder and harder smelling jobs. The final goal(目標) was to see if they could smell stress from a person.
With the help of other scientists, Wilson got 36 samples(樣本) from different people. He got them when the people were stressed, and also when they were not. Then the dogs had to find out the stressed one. In all, the dogs did 720 of these tests. To his surprise, the dogs could find out the stressed one about 94% of the time.
The results(結果) show that stress does have a smell and dogs can know. Wilson says the news could be very useful in training service dogs, because their job is to help make that stress lower.

Imagine this. Someone hides free books on the subway for you to find and read. Sounds exciting Well, a British girl named Emma Watson is doing it! She is known for acting as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter movies.
Watson hid 100 copies of a book called Mom & Me & Mom on London's subway. The book is an autobiography(自傳) from US writer Maya Angelou. It tells about the writer's relationship with her mother. She put the books in different places on the subway. People saw Watson doing the same thing on New York's subway this month.”
With each book, there is a handwritten note by Watson. She asked people to “take special care” of the books if they find them. She also wrote that “when you are finished, please leave it on the subway again for someone else to find”.
Watson's work is part of a movement(活動) called Books on the Subway. It invites people to leave their books on the subway so that other people can enjoy them too.
Hollie Belton, a woman in London, started the movement in 2012. She loves reading on the subway. She found that a lot of people shared her habit so she got the idea. Over the years, Belton has left over 2000 books of her own. Nowadays more and more people get interested in the movement because of her.
Watson is a book lover as well. That's why she tried it earlier last year, Watson set up her own online book club Our Shared Shelf. Now she reads one book every month with the club members. Mom & Me & Mom is the club's book for January this year.
