From a young age, Dorothy Jean Tillman excelled in her academic pursuits. By age 7, she was already doing high school work. At that point, she started to take college-level tests and apply the credits toward higher education.

Now, at 18, she is officially Dr. Dorothy Jean Tillman after attending the graduation ceremony at Arizona State University (ASU)’s College of Health Solutions on May 8.
In addition to her school work, Dorothy also devotes her time to running the Dorothy Jeanius STEAM Leadership Institute, which prompts hundreds of young people in Chicago, as well as abroad in countries like Ghana and South Africa, to pursue STEAM careers. The program includes guest speakers and open conversations around each of the five areas of STEAM. “We just want to provide them with all possible resources and the best foundation to be able to start walking on that pathway to their dreams,” she says.
While so many people wonder at the success she’s achieved, Dorothy says she is still a normal teen who spends time with family and friends. The first Olympic Games in recorded history took place in 776 BC on the ancient plains of Olympia in southern Greece. These ancient games took place in a religious festival and were devoted to the Olympian gods. They continued for almost twelve centuries until Emperor Theodosius banned them in AD 393.
It was about 1,500 years after the last Olympics that the ancient games were revived (復興). Baron Pierre de Coubertin, a Frenchman devoted to the promotion of physical education, was inspired to create a modern Olympic Games after he visited the ancient Olympic site.
The first modern Olympic Games took place in Athens, Greece, in 1896, and were attended by 280 athletes from 12 countries, who competed in 43 events. In 2004, the Olympic Games returned to Greece with nearly 11,000 athletes representing 201 countries.

It’s less furry than a traditional companion, but a six-legged Chinese robot “guide dog” could one day help vision-impaired (視覺受損的) people live with more independence, according to its research development team in Shanghai.
The robot dog, which is currently being field-tested, is able to navigate (導航) its physical environment via cameras and sensors, including recognizing traffic light signals, which traditional guide dogs are unable to do.
Roughly the size of an English Bulldog but a bit wider, it can communicate by listening and speaking with a visually impaired operator with AI-technology integrated in its voice recognition, route planning capabilities and traffic light recognition. It also has six legs, which the researchers say help it walk smoothly and with maximum stability.
Married couple Li Fei, 41, and Zhu Sibin, 42, are among the visually impaired people helping the Jiao Tong University team test the robot using Chinese-language commands. “If this robot guide dog comes onto the market and I could use it, at least it could solve some of my problems in traveling alone,” Li said.
Robot guide dogs are under development in other countries, including Australia and Britain, but China has a critical shortage of traditional guide dogs. “In China, there are just over 400 guide dogs for almost 20 million blind people,” said Professor Gao Feng, the head of the research team at Jiao Tong University’s School of Mechanical Engineering in Shanghai.
There might be tens of millions of people in the world who need guide dogs. Unlike those dogs, which will always be limited in supply due to the natural limitations of breeding and the intense training required, Gao said the production of robot guide dogs could be scaled, especially in a major manufacturing center like China. “It’s a bit like cars. I can mass-produce them in the same way as cars, so it will become more affordable,” Gao said.

It was my father’s voice! I rubbed my sleepy eyes and looked around. There, about one hundred meters from the stop stood my father in the shadows. Then I realized that my father had been standing there all the time. Perhaps, he knew it would be useless to argue with his stubborn little girl. What he could do was waiting for my anger to die away. At first, I wanted to ignore him, but his voice sounded so assuring in the frightening quietness of night!
I grabbed my bag and hurried toward him. On the way home, my father explained apologetically that he was caught off guard by the news and that he was very worried about my safety if I would go so far away alone. “Now I have realized that you have grown up and it is time for you to chase your dream. I will give my permission as long as you promise to live on campus and will not slip away when you are angry in the US,” my father said with resignation.
