Greetings T: Good morning/afternoon, class! How are you today Ss: Good morning/afternoon, teacher! Fine, thank you. 2. Lead-in T: Let's start our class with a short video. (Play a video about a sports game) T: What can you see in the video S1: I can see some athletes playing football. T: Great! Do you like sports Why or why not S2: Yes, I do. Because sports can make me healthy and strong. T: Excellent! Today, we are going to learn a new unit about sports. Step 2: Presentation 1. Show some pictures of different sports and ask students to name them. T: Look at these pictures. What sports are they S3: They are basketball, tennis and swimming. T: Well done! Now, let's learn some new words and phrases related to sports. 2. Teach the new words and phrases - Stand for T: “Olympic Games” stands for the biggest sports event in the world. What does “stand for” mean S4: It means “represent”. - Memory T: I have a good memory of my last sports game. What is “memory” S5: It means “the ability to remember things”. - Point T: In a basketball game, if you score, you get points. What is “point” S6: It means “a mark or unit of scoring in a game or competition”. 3. Read the words and phrases together. 4. Present the sentence “Daming wasn't chosen for the team last time.” T: Look at this sentence. Can you understand it S7: It means Daming wasn't selected for the team last time. T: Yes. Now, let's make some sentences with “be chosen for”. Step 3: Practice 1. Group work Divide the students into groups of four. Ask them to make sentences with “be chosen for” and share them with the group members. T: Now, work in groups. Make as many sentences as you can with “be chosen for” and then share them with your group members. 2. Dialogue practice Ask students to work in pairs and have a dialogue using the target language. T: Work in pairs. Make a dialogue about a sports team selection. You can use the following sentences: A: I wasn't chosen for the team. B: That's too bad. But don't give up. Step 4: Listening 1. Pre-listening T: Now, let's listen to a conversation. Before listening, please look at the questions on the PPT. - Why wasn't Daming chosen for the team last time - What will happen this time 2. While-listening Play the recording and ask students to listen carefully and answer the questions. T: Now, let's start listening. 3. Post-listening Check the answers with the students.
