Born in 1809 in England. His most famous work is "On the Origin of Species," published in 1859. In this book, he proposed the theory of evolution by natural selection, which suggests that species change over time through a process of natural selection. This theory caused controversy at the time, but it has since become widely accepted in the scientific community.Darwin also made important contributions to the study of geology, botany, and zoology. He was a prolific writer and published many books and articles throughout his career.Charles DarwinPre-readingThink and speakActivity 2Read the text about Darwin and tell us your understanding of the title.journey:an act of travelling from one place to another, especially when they are far apart (尤指長途)旅行,行程The title may indicate that the work leading to the discovery takes quite a long time and great efforts, determination and perseverance.A Journey of DiscoveryRead and tellWhile readingActivity 3Choose the main idea of the text.Darwin’s interest in various living things made him a great naturalist.Darwin’s journey on the Beagle inspired his Theory of Evolution.Darwin went on a journey to confirm his theory that humans had evolved over time.Read for the main ideaWhile readingActivity 4What was thhe old ideas about evolution At that time, many people believed that all species had appeared on Earth at the same time and had not changed since. But Darwin began to think differently....Read for detailsWhile readingActivity 3Number the puzzle piece in order. Darwin explained this theory in his book, On the Origin of Species. It was not published until 1859 and immediately caused a storm. Many people refused to believe that living things, including humans, had evolved from lower forms of life. They were shocked. But Darwin's scientific studies were so convincing that more and more people started to believe his theory.Read and answerWhile readingActivity 5What kind of person was Darwin according to the passage He was determined and curious about science and was enthusiastic to make new discovers.determinedcuriousenthusiasticRead and answerWhile readingActivity 5How do you think the human species will evolve in the future Humans may become taller and taller.Humans may liver longer.Humans may become wiser and wiser....Think and sharePost-readingActivity 6What have you learnt about the spirit of scientific exploration How can this spirit help you in your life and studies curiosityperseverancebraverydeterminationstrictnessquestioningspirits of scientific explorationDiscussionPost-readingActivity 7Prepare for a talk about “The Theory of evolution”.AssignmentThanks! 展開更多...... 收起↑ 資源預覽 縮略圖、資源來源于二一教育資源庫
